Our Mission

Across the greater Rangeley and surrounding areas; Dallas, Sandy River, Rangeley, Coplin Plantations as well as the towns of Rangeley and Oquossoc, there are elderly people, widows, single parents, and many others who could benefit from a bit of help. In 20__, our founder Craig Sargent recognized this need for assistance and decided to do something about it.

The Sargent Family Community Fund was founded to benefit the people who do not have the means they need to live at an optimal level. Our goal since our creation has been to help people in need through financial assistance, volunteer labor, food donations and much more.

Just One Day (J1D)

What is Just One Day?

One of our biggest events throughout the year is our Just One Day event. Each year we select one or more homes in the greater Rangeley and surrounding areas; Dallas, Sandy River, Rangeley, Coplin Plantations as well as the towns of Rangeley and Oquossoc to have needed renovations done at no cost to the homeowner.

On one day in mid-July, artisans, businesses, and other people from across the area volunteer one day of their time to assist with the renovations being done to the property. This volunteer portion of the project is known as Just One Day (J1D).

Each year around 50 people donate up to 8 hours of their time laboring over various aspects of the projects. This includes things like:

  • Planting Flowers
  • Mowing Lawns
  • Trimming
  • Painting
  • Debris Removal
  • Cleaning

Beyond the One Day

While this event only lasts one day, the projects we’re involved in can last months or years. Throughout the rest of the year, people are paid for their labor and materials through this community fund and other business contributions.

In 2024 alone, the Sargent Family Community Fund took part in five renovation projects for people in need. We could not do this without the amazing support and contributions from people in our community.

In addition to the Just One Day event, the SFCF also

  • Has been a co-sponsor the fireworks display for the 4th of July celebration,
  • Provides oil assistance to people throughout the served communities
  • Provides fruits and vegetables at the High School  (RSU 78)
  • Rental of large TV screens to benefit the High School graduates and attendees during graduation ceremonies
  • Sponsors and provides land for local community gardens
  • Has given financial support for the development and building of the new Beth Brunswick Memorial Fund Daycare Center (project begins in 2024)

Just One Day 2021

Allen St. Project

For this project, we helped a woman in mid-60’s who donates hundreds of hours annually to other non-profit organizations in Rangeley and surrounding areas; Dallas, Sandy River, Rangeley, Coplin Plantations as well as the towns of Rangeley and Oquossoc. This project was extensive in that the property had to be jacked and leveled (the entire house and attached barn/garage). This part of the project was completed in the summer of 2020. In the summer/fall of 2020, all of the old siding was removed and primed and stained. The wood clapboards that were in good shape were found under the siding. Before and after photos are included that demonstrate the transformation.
