Our Mission

Across the towns of Rangeley and  Oquossoc and including the four Plantations of Dallas, Sandy River, Rangeley, and Coplin, there are elderly people, widows, single parents, and many others who could benefit from a bit of help. Founder of SFCF, Craig Sargent, recognized this need for assistance and decided to do something about it.

The Sargent Family Community Fund was founded to benefit the people who do not have the means they need to live at an optimal level. Since our creation, the SFCF goal has been to help people in need through financial assistance, volunteer labor, food donations and much more.

What is Just One Day?

One of our biggest events throughout the year is our Just One Day event. Each year, we select one or more homes in the towns of Rangeley and Oquossoc and the Plantations of Dallas, Sandy River, Rangeley, and Coplin, to have needed renovations done at no cost to the homeowner.

On the third Wednesday of July, artisans, businesses, and others across the area volunteer one day of their time to assist with the renovations being done to the selected properties. This volunteer event is known as Just One Day (J1D).

Each year approximately 75 people donate up to 8 hours of their time laboring over various aspects of the projects. This includes things like:

  • Planting Flowers
  • Landscaping
  • Trimming
  • Painting
  • Groundwork
  • Debris Removal

  • Cleaning

  • Carpentry

  • Electrical

  • Plumbing/Heating

“Owning a home is a keystone of wealth… both financial affluence and emotional security.” – Suze Orman

Words from our previous beneficiaries.

“… I am grateful the people in the community gave up their own work and time to help their neighbor.

I would have been in serious hardship without them. I wish every community had this for people in need.”

Jill D, Just One Day 2019

“… This process was effortless on my part, I can never repay the generosity of the volunteers that made this happen, but I will be sure to volunteer myself on their next project.

I will forever be grateful for the Sargent Family and the “Just One Day” organization for removing my worry and stress and saving me from financial ruin or worse, it changed my life forever.  It still feels like a dream.”
